why do we work? the value of work.

Work is not about job security, but about finding and flowing in your identity. Work is not about staying in a fixed place all the way, but about mixing with people to fulfill a potential.

But work for the value of self-identity or vs. work for the value of others, survival of family and nation.

There is always work on earth to do. Plenty of types/kinds/sorts of work to do, designed by an infinite God, so that we cannot say there is nothing (interesting) to do. eg. Teaching is one great work. There is always and endless room for all sorts of learning to take place, in every student or in any colleagues or higher ups.

God is a worker. – But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” – John 5:17

God liked His works. – Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. – Genesis 1:31

God created humans to work; to be active and useful. – The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. – Genesis 2:15

God made people in His image to help oversee His creation. He wants people to manage the world. He gives humankind the cultural mandate; the authority to cultivate and develop earth, to use it to meet their needs, to expose its natural wonders and to cooperate with its natural laws.

Work is an expression of identity and self. – God reveals himself through His work. Humans comprehend the invisible, spiritual God through the work of His hands and creation. – Romans 1:20 (paraphrased)

Human work however should less be seen as an individual process, but as a partnership with God to produce something. because it is always God who inspires. He speaks to our hearts to reveal the blessings that is already within us.

We are made to use our creativity to shape the world around us using the gifts we are given in the work that we do. – How then should we work, Hugh.

Main/key idea: God values His concept of work and creativity. [Appendix]

http://bible.org/article/biblical-worldview-work

When work is done in and for the Lord, it benefits others and honors God. It is in creative activity that we externalize our identities as people made in the image of God.

The fall affected the character of work in such a way that it became associated more with toil than with joy. Because of sin, rebellion against God, the nature of work became altered/distorted. Rather than work as a means of self-expression, satisfaction and pleasure, our labour also involved providing food and other necessities to live.

– Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you will return. – Genesis 3:17-19

Work was not cursed, the ground was. Work would now be difficult and frustrating because of the cursed ground. In the corporate organization, work is frustrating and exhausting to reconcile and collaborate the diversity in people’s growth, opinions and value system.

Work also serves as a function for human beings to find themselves in diversity. To strive with one another  in the tensions of building relationships. To love and understand one another as a community, serve our social obligations and support one another as a team.

The price for life is that an effort has to be made to stay alive.

God can only give u Oranges and not the Orange juice!!!

[Appendix]

(Although) Being omniscient, He already knows what the END* outcome is (actually there is no end outcome because His creation is infinite and limitless), He values more the process/journey to the end (result) than the end (product) itself.

God’s value of the process rather than product is consistent with the paradox about God’s omniscience and the freewill of human beings.  That how can God already know who (human beings) would reign with Him at the END, yet human beings still appear to have freewill to endeavor life’s testing of loyalty and faithfulness to Him.

Vs. probabilistic model – idea of stochastic process. A network of graph/nodes representing many possible routes/choices/path (with probability) the world can evolve towards, and God is omniscient-ly aware of ALL the possible outcomes.

*yet another philosophical line of thought debates the invariance of the END outcome. Could God’s omniscience of the END be deterministic yet changing? and dependent for every future second to pass. *not be confused with God’s unchanging nature.

A third philosophy regard God’s omniscience is from the concept of time. That God is able to see all things from His eternal present, where eternity is not subject to the conditions of continuous time but the simultaneous and complete possession of infinite life.
